I’m sure you recognize her. She was the one standing beside your Governor Cooper during those daily press conferences under the guise of giving Pandemic updates. In reality she was doing her part, along with WRAL and other news orgs, to give Cooper free air time while he was running for his second term as Governor. Looking back on the circumstance Dan Forest never stood a chance.
Let me remind you that she was not elected to this position but was appointed. Besides Governor Cooper and Senator Berger, she was probably the most powerful person in Raleigh. The only allegiance she held was to Roy and we all know what a pillar of virtue he is.
We all remember the thousands of small business closings, especially restaurants, that she and Cooper were directly responsible for. Businesses that for the most part will never reopen. The school closings that will handicap a generation of children. Their complicitness in forcing millions of people to take an unproven vaccine, whether they wanted it or not.
Now your President Biden has chosen her to lead the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
Google fun fact:
CDC uses dozens of surveillance systems to collect data on chronic diseases and their risk factors. These systems—often the only source of such data—help epidemiologists understand how chronic diseases affect Americans. Surveillance and epidemiology guide us in putting our resources to the best use.
Now she will be leading the same government agency that unilaterally halted the eviction of renters for failing to pay their rent. Forgive me but I had no idea that they could do this. Can someone out there please grok me to the statute that allows them this power?
But I digress.
The anticipated nomination of Cohen drew outspoken criticism from several North Carolina Republican elected officials , foremost U.S. Senator Ted Budd, U.S. Rep Dan Bishop and state Treasurer Dale Folwell.
From Senator Ted Budd:
“Dr. Cohen is unfit for the position … given her strong affiliation with the Democrat(ic) Party and the COVID-19 lockdowns,” according to the letter.
“It will be difficult for the American people to trust Dr. Cohen to run the CDC as a nonpartisan actor who makes objective decisions rooted in scientific data, and not in political expediency.”
From NC Treasurer Folwell in the W/S Journal:
“I tried for months during COVID to get the Council of State to convene with Dr. Cohen to explain the lack of transparency in the data used to shut down our economy and our schools,” Folwell told the Journal. “These decisions disproportionately hurt lower- and fixed-income adults and kids.”
“By closing schools and the economy, it closed opportunity and upward mobility for students and citizens. The damage is generational.”
Fortunately there was a new law passed recently that mandates a Senate confirmation for CDC Directors.
Unfortunately it won’t take effect until 2025.
But it is my hope that President Trump, or whoever, can cause her to seek employment elsewhere when we take back the Presidency on January 20, 2025.
