Hernia Holiday
Lee Haywood
On September 27, at exactly the same time that Hurricane Helene was bearing down on the good people of Western North Carolina, I was getting my own kind of havoc. After twenty years, I finally took the time and effort to take care of a hernia I had fondly named “My Hernia”.
OK, You might be asking yourself “Why did he wait 20 years”? That is a valid question. Well I’ve been married for forty years so I obviously have a high tolerance for pain. But it had started to become more noticeable and so I decided to go ahead and get it taken care of. Now, this might seem strange, but I was sort of looking forward to having a week off (the RNC Convention definitely doesn’t count as a vacation). I was going get a lot of paperwork taken care of, balance the checkbooks, catch up on the periodicals and, if I had time, sleep.
Well, that sneeky old doctor had something else in mind. The medication he prescribed was really good at masking the pain but it also made me want to sleep. A lot. The result being that every time I tried to accomplish something, a wave of drowsiness would come over me, the result being that I got absolutely nothing done for most of a week.
But something strange also happened during my recuperative period. Everyday, out of the blue, I would get a couple of seriously large call in orders that involved quite a bit of time to process. Now if I had been working my regular routine, it would have been a little stressful getting everyone taken care of. I can only attribute it to being a God thing. Go figure.
Anyway, long story short, everything worked out all right. I sort of miss My Hernia but it was time for her to go. Maybe she’ll come back some day.
Anyway, lots of stuff going on this week. Next week I’ll try to have one of my delightful and insightful blogs for you to enjoy. Till then I hope to see you Tuesday at Mimi’s for Mark Keith Robinson.
Peace out.
