I ask that you allow me another post about Jimmy Buffett. I’ve been a lifelong fan and thought I knew most everything about him. Boy, was I wrong. It has been over a week and the internet is still going strong with stories about his life and what an honest and down to earth person he was. Let’s just suffice it to say that he led an extremely diverse and varied life.
From his daughter Delaney:
“I knew my dad my whole life, but in his final days, I saw who he was: a man whose spirit could not be broken,” Delaney wrote Wednesday on social media.
Buffett died on September 1 following a private, four-year battle with Merkel cell skin cancer. “Despite the pain, he smiled everyday. He was kind when he had every excuse not to be. He told us not to be sad or scared, but to keep the party going,” Delaney wrote.
“And as much as I’d like to use that as an excuse to drink myself into an oblivion worthy of his literary heroes, I know it’s not what he meant. Yes, he loved his weed and his wine, but the truth is, most of the time, he was just high on life, and that is what he wanted for everyone: to enjoy the fantastic trip that life can be.”Indeed, He was able to cross barriers and become good friends with heavy hitters such as Warren Buffett. No relation. You would never guess that he was worth over a billion dollars.
Anyway, I thought I would share with you this picture of two close friends hamming it up for a magazine article. I could not take my eyes off it. The look on Jimmy’s face is priceless and it embodies the good natured personality that endeared him to millions. If you were to ask how I want people to think of me, this comes pretty close. I hope to emulate the same self assurance and humility that Jimmy is showing of himself in this picture.
How could you not like this guy?
