On August 22, Iryna Zarutska a 23 year old from Ukraine was stabbed in the neck and killed on a Charlotte CATS light rail train. She was murdered by 34 year old Decarlos Brown, a homeless criminal who had been arrested and released 14 times by Mecklenburg County. She had moved there to escape the war and violence in Ukraine. May she rest in peace.

I’ve never been to Chicago. Most likely because I’ve never had a reason to go there. Not on business anyway and as far as vacation is concerned, I gravitate towards places with sand and salt water, not buildings and asphalt.
I’ve heard good things about the food, museums and nightlife. But you can’t be an American and not be aware of the corruption and violence that occurs there daily and that seems to have become a part of their culture. Indeed, they have buses that will take you on a tour to visit the most famous crime scenes that have occurred there over the years.
At least nine people were killed and 52 others wounded over the Labor Day weekend. Unbelievably, city leaders there proudly proclaimed that this was part of a downward trend and proof that there was no need for federal troops to intervene. They point to crime statistics showing last year was the first since 2019 with fewer than 600 homicides. Yes, I said 600. Indeed, the first half of 2025 saw 190 killings, 75 less than at the same point in 2024. Any Republican would be embarrassed to be responsible for these statistics. For Democrats it’s business as usual.

President Trump has taken aim at this liberal run city and is promising to send the National Guard in to stem the violence that these poor people have become accustomed to. Now, no one really knows what is going on in that orange head of his, but Trump is a master at creating and controlling the narrative and he has latched onto the issue of our nation’s rampant crime problem and the Democrat’s failure to a control it, let alone acknowledge it.
He is calling them out and they are falling for it hook, line and sinker.
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, a Duke University graduate, and Chicago’s Mayor Brandon Johnson, a former social studies teacher, are ferociously opposed to troops being sent in and I can understand why. It would showcase how inept they are. Or maybe it would call into question their true motivations. Just why are they willing to sit by as this carnage takes place. There must be a reason.
As much as I question the constitutionality of these guard deployments, I am also tired of watching my country go to crap while miscreants get away with murder.
For whatever reason, at least Trump is doing something about it.
