And so it is. I never had any doubt, did you? Kevin McCarthy’s perseverance and willingness to accommodate the demands of the gang of twenty has elevated him to Speaker of the House of Representatives. There are all kinds of bromides and quotes that come to mind for what we just endured. My favorite comes from The Babe. He said “You just can’t beat the person who never gives up.” I use this as a signature on one of my email accounts to let my prospects know just what they are in for when I decide they are going to be one of my clients. McCarthy even used it in his 2am acceptance speech when he said, “I don’t give up.” This mindset is one that typifies the American spirit (or used to) and should be admired.
All week long I was queried about the circus going on in Washington and how our perceived weakness will affect our dealings with the Democrats. I generally had this response.
One. Screw the Democrats. Who cares what they think? I don’t. Yes, they run a tight ship, but should they be admired for their ability to stick together in their goal of promoting every perversion and law designed to destroy our Republic? Their lack of individualism and conviction disgusts me and I feel sorry for them. Hey, I don’t agree with the way 20 renegades held the House hostage for so long and it almost came to the point of the perfect being the enemy of the good. I believe a couple of them just liked the airtime on FOX News. But they got their point across, didn’t they?
Second. I advised them to trust the process. These procedures were put in place by men and women who were much smarter than we are. Relax and enjoy the lesson in parliamentary procedure.
Third and most important. It is always a good thing for Congress to not be in session. Without exception when they get together it causes one of two things, or both, to happen.
A) They want to take money from you and your family or
B) They want to pass a law that ultimately results in diminishing even more your liberty and personal freedom. Did I say, without exception?
For this reason I have always been a fan of gridlock, it is good for the country. By design, the Founding Fathers made it hard for Congress to pass laws and we should all want to limit their ability to gather. It only leads to trouble.
Congratulations to Kevin McCarthy for his election as Speaker of the House. He deserves it.
